Opportunities to Heal

With every new illness, recurrence or threat,
there opens a door for...

New Opportunities to Heal.

A couple of years ago I studied Centering Prayer, a type of reverse meditation that is not the easiest practice to master, but is designed to bring stillness with God. The author of the book shared a story of a woman who was practicing and struggling with her wandering mind during the 20-minute session. She stated that her mind must have wandered at least 1,000 times and she was openly frustrated. His response was priceless:

"Then you have 1,000 opportunities to return to God".

I LOVE that response!  We can return to Him not just once a day/week/year, but thousands of times every single day.  With every heartache, with every mistake, with every negative thought or intention, with every sore throat, and with every follow-up test that doesn't reveal optimum results, there is another time to run to the arms of our Heavenly Father. It is another time to sit with Him, another time for healing, another experience for growth and wisdom, and another way to see God's grace, glory and power within our lives.

About a year ago, I worked with a client struggling from PTSD as a result of severe emotional and mental abuse over her lifetime. As her healing progressed, new triggers would send her into the pain that she was so desperately seeking release from. We discussed how those triggers gave her new opportunities to heal from each level of abuse that her body was responding to. And with time, she was able to learn how to process and release those triggers more and more quickly to reduce or eliminate the painful effects that followed. And with that work, each new layer revealed could heal.

The past few months I have felt the subtleties of not feeling 100%.  A mild yet persistent off & on cold since late September has left me with kleenex in hand daily, and I have struggled with a few things emotionally (body image) and spiritually. Not coincidentally, the timing aligns with our recent move into a new home. So, it came as no surprise that one of my cancer antigen markers was on the rise. Though nothing alarming, this told my doctor and myself that something was off and was allowing my body to begin developing an environment that could eventually host growing cancer cells if it continued.

For the most part, I was aware of the work that needed to be done.  Back to basic essentials on diet and "anti-cancer" supplements, check PH levels, moderate my exercise, and begin the work in healing the emotional and spiritual factors while my doctor supported me physiologically with infusion vitamin C therapy. My healing practitioner was also able to confirm and help to further define what was going on in my heart and the energy around me so that I can implement additional steps and prayer towards healing in our new home.

With each day of prayer and healing energy practice, I cradled myself in the arms of our God and thanked Him for the healing I knew He was continuing to do. I would ask Him to reveal to me what I needed to know and do each time while then practicing the healing touch followed by stillness (Centering Prayer). Though I know in my mind the potential and possibilities of reaching new levels of spirituality and relationship with Him, I am ALWAYS in awe when it does happen. And admittedly, sometimes it scares me a bit to reach those levels...levels that simply can't be described with words.

I still have work to do in the matters of my heart & spirit, but I'm happy to report that I have felt more peace in recent days, and last week's lab work supports the progress with healthy and stabilized markers!  Oh, and with one final cold erruption, my cough and constant drip is finally gone as well.

The opportunities to heal = opportunities to return to God.
